Re: The Current State of the Dart Frog Hobby(?)

Real quick synopsis. The hobby now has access to large colombian obligates that are thousands of dollars each. The rest of the 'market' took a hit - pumilio especially. Imports of them are way down. Facebook took over as the method of posting stuff choice. All the forums are almost all dead. The ho...

The Current State of the Dart Frog Hobby(?)

Over the last year I've been slowly selling or giving away many of my dart frogs. I've been doing this for a number of reasons including a possible work related relocation, failing health of close family members and general all-around burn out. When I started about 8-9 years ago I never thought I'd ...

Re: Sexing adult Azureus

I have a pair of Azureus that are between 4-5 years old. At this point it's clearly obvious the difference between the two but when they first paired up it was difficult just taking a glance at them. It was the behaviour of the female that really set them apart. Just looking at the frog and what I c...

Re: Judging humidity

You want moist, humid but not sopping wet. plants and glass need not have droplets on them but you'll know if it's too dry. I once read an experienced dart frogger answer a similar question like this on another board and he said as long as there's condensation on the glass then the humidity in the ...

Re: Eggs and Tadpoles By Mail ?

Ship tadpoles in a small test tube like plastic container like in this attached thread link. http://dartden.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=5209 There's nothing wrong with shipping eggs or tadpoles as long as the OTHER party has their expectations correct. There have been many instances of screaming b...

Eggs and Tadpoles By Mail ?

Has anyone here ever bought eggs or tadpoles from another dart frogger? I know of several companies that sell tadpoles but I never see ads in the classified section for eggs or tads. I myself have sent tadpoles three times and they all arrived okay. The reason why I'm asking is that I no longer keep...

Re: Thumbnails are arboreal?

Offhand do you know the calculated amount of gallons for my Exo Terra(18x18x24)? For dart frogs in the wild, especially thumbnails, what height is considered arboreal for them. They can't be living up in the canopy with the tree frogs. My R. Imitator "Chazuta" though will climb all over th...

Thumbnails are arboreal?

I wanted to talk about my experience with Iquitos and get other people's opinions and other input. I've been keeping this species, R. Amazonica "Iquitos" for the last two years. I maintain three different groups of them in three separate enclosures with a total of about 17-18 frogs. One of...

Re: Shipping boxes needed

Phil, Thanks. It's the same thing though, they want you to buy in quantity. They do have the sizes I need. I know there are places out there on the net because I've run across them before but I just don't remember where. Thanks, Edit - I just did a fast search and found what I needed at PangeaReptil...

Shipping boxes needed

I did not know where else to put this inquiry so I stuck it here. Where can I buy shipping boxes along with styrofoam insulation inserts? I've found quite a few places but they want you to buy them in quantity but I only need 3-4. I especially need boxes that are about 11-12 inches long and around 8...

Separater in an Exo Terra ?

Has anyone ever been able to create some type of plastic or glass separater for an Exo Terra enclosure. This is not for dart frogs though, I want to take a 24x12x12 and use it for two tarantulas.

Let me know if you've come up with something.

Re: What is the smallest species of thumbnail?

Ranitomeya reticulata gets my vote. About $80-100 for a well started froglet Uncommon but not rare in the U.S hobby. At least two different 'morphs' or populations / imports The males are VERY combative. Deaths and stress are much higher than most other thumbnails The froglets morph out tiny. TINY ...

What is the smallest species of thumbnail?

If there are other species outside of this genus you can list them too. The one problem I can remember of the tiny species is that they are hard to come by and are expensive. I'm kind of looking for a challenge. It's the reason I've been cutting back on my collection in the last year. I decided not ...

Re: Lighting and Lid Questions from a Beginner

I have two Exo Terra 18x18x24 enclosures and this is what I did...I take the lid off and I carefully lay two strips of Saran Wrap across the top and then lay the lid back on and then secure it back down with the latches. I then carefully trim the excess and tape what little bit of edges are exposed ...

Re: R. benedicta morphs ?

They are a tad bigger than an imitator but still considered a thumbnail. Thanks for the reply. I've been in a holding pattern the last 3-4 months in regards to buying any new species but R. Benedicta are right at the top of my list along with two species of Oophaga. I won't get serious till the end...
