Re: 'The Dragon Behind the Glass' Book

Thank you so much for recommending this book. So many (though depressingly sad) parallels to the PDF keeping world.

Re: Thin flat Cork Tiles for backgrounds !

I have both used the Maryland cork panels as well as the pack of 4 you can find at craft stores. It has been awhile since I researched it, but I think most of these panels are heat treated to form the panels rather then chemicals and I associated the campfire smell as related to that process in both...

Trouble in Las Vegas

This is may not be right section for this ..so feel fee to move. I have just heard about this crazy attempt at new regulations in Las Vegas. However it sounds like if you live in the area and own any type of animal .. it is time to voice your opinion, the link below will show you how and the sooner ...

So funny you should mention that. There is reason after a particularly productive session of spider vacuuming last weekend, my shop vac is still outside on my backyard patio!

Re: Poll - Do you need to see pictures before buying frogs ?

I don’t have a problem with the occasional sale/trade/ giving of tadpoles. I just will not spend money for frogs or supplies with ANY business or hobbyist that makes the selling of tadpoles a regular part their operation. I hate to see the PDF hobby going in this direction for a multitude of reasons...

Re: Poll - Do you need to see pictures before buying frogs ?

The only 2 "breeders" I know that are openly selling tadpoles are DFC and DF and I absolutely do not support this. Therefore nope, no pictures needed.

I prefer to pay the person who has raised the parents, then tads to frogs with care and attention, for their efforts.

Glad you are still a froggin Kristi. Oddly enough R. benendicta "Pampa Hermosa" are my last additions as well. I have some little offspring now, that are lovely as they can be... when I see them!

Congrats, enjoy yours

Re: Oophaga granulifera 'Portalone' aka Golden Grannie.

I think it is a very lovely frog if it can be proven it is being imported from someone who can 100% prove it is be collected or raised in a sustainable way that does not impact the native population negatively. If not, it becomes a sort of butt ugly frog. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...as we...

Re: Positive for Coccidia - treatments ?

Hun I test and QT every frog then do annual tests plus PCR for for coccidia and rana. New frogs are typically in QT for 3 months plus before putting in a new viv. IMO runny poos and firm poos on a leaf do not "cut it." I would not sell frogs that could "potentially" ie coccidia ...

Probably the best poll I have ever seen. I think dart frogs are even better then the little monkeys I was hoping to get.

Just a thought, I have tended to stay away from porous materials for egg laying. Obviously your benedicta like they clay pots, but try placing some film canisters in as well. You may have better luck with the eggs and tads.

Re: The Recent 'Glut" of Panamanian o. pumilio imports

The new pumilio imports will be drastically reduced in number, from whatever their import number was, within the year. There will be countless assumptions and arguments over what morph/locale/lne they are. Yet they will sell like hot cakes and the demand for more will continue. My feelings on this s...

Hi Rich, I am getting a bit uneasy about the "black jeans" info on that thread, somethings are not really adding up. I am not referring to Justin's import, but rather linage info on black jeans in the hobby currently. I have a pair of yours and have some of their now offspring growing up. ...

Re: Purchasing Frogs from Reptile Conventions questions.

Chung,

One good thing to bring in the car with you when is an ice chest/cooler. Placing frogs, insects, etc., inside the cooler makes a safer trip for them, keeping temperature more stable. Hopefully the weather will be nice, but it is a good idea anytime you are transporting frogs.

Re: Ethics; Do you feel bad taking eggs from your frogs?

I actually hate pulling eggs and really try to let all my frogs at least transport. I don’t think it is because I feel bad when I do pull them, but more that I like the idea of them being able to behave closer to what they would in a natural setting. Watching the parents and offspring together in th...

Trader Joe's consistently has orchids in great shape.. all year. I have had hit and miss with them in vivs, but I am not all that good with orchids. A few months ago I found a few nice $4. ferns that I did not have and are still doing well . I always check their plant selection..just in case! Just a...

I am thinking you won't really have many friends left, or maybe you can still be friends with all the people that own "greyish" frogs ... they could be greyish friends. Just a caution that things are not black and white. Personally I think most people are not "scared" they just d...
