Re: "Hybridizing”,Cross-breeding and Mixing Dart Frogs

Thanks for kind reply, Beth. I can't imagine where the 'word of mouth' came from - the only sale I made was those beautiful blue/bronze auratus (Vivarium Concepts) - it was more work than I had time. I'm thinking that folks who want to make the investment into the pdf hobby will do their research as...

Re: "Hybridizing”,Cross-breeding and Mixing Dart Frogs

I just dropped in to say 'howdy', and lookee here - another mixed tank thread! Yes, I'm notorious for having a mixed tank, and a few froggers whom I've never met despise me for it. The tank in question is 150g and it house 1.3 Leucs, a female azureus and a male powderblue. The last two have been wit...

Re: I WANT a WATERFALL / STREAM !!!

Why, thanks, kind sir! The galacts REALLY love it. This was our first 'open' concept tank, and it was fast, easy and it turned out extra nice. It's in the kitchen dining area, so we do have an audience ~~

Re: Breeding Dart frogs for specific size - smaller ?

I'm not sure I've seen any posts on how breeding can be suppressed, other than separating the boys from the girls. From personal experience, a little lower humidity and lighter on the frogchow takes care of wanting to make tadpoles. Are there other ways?

Re: Breeding Dart frogs for specific size - smaller ?

If you think about it, where do the wild frogs put their tads? It depends on the frog, right? Sometimes, a hollowed stump, others prefer broms, and I'm sure that there are quite a few that go for stagnant pools. This last group would probably have access to springtails, especially during a good rain...

Re: Breeding Dart frogs for specific size - smaller ?

Considering that it's a unique hobby, I have to agree with you, RR. Then, there are those of us who simply enjoy the frogs for what they are. LOVE the stereo chirping ! Eventually, the hobby will be saturated with frogs, and ethical hobbyists will want something different. There are many species tha...

Re: Breeding Dart frogs for specific size - smaller ?

N/p, Phil. I just threw it out there. Heck - I it never occurred to me that an Aussie would be developed as a mini, but there they are. Apples n oranges, I know. I'm a hobbyist for the pure enjoyment of watching my frogs and making sure that they are well taken care of. I rarely sell any frogs, and ...

Re: Breeding Dart frogs for specific size - smaller ?

If I understand you correctly, you would rather take animals from the wild than work with your stock to improve color, pattern, or size? I GET the part on hybrids - I've never seen one nor bred any. I was tossing out an alternative to folks who want something different w/o hybridizing to get it. A m...

Re: Tadpole enclosure/cup components

To see if a smaller/larger healthy frog can be produced. Would the same thing be accomplished by selective breeding? For example - I have two Austrailian shepherds. One is a standard and the other is a mini. Both are purebred and registered, but the mini is a more expensive pooch due to his size. I ...

Re: Tadpole enclosure/cup components

Speaking of tads, etc - has anyone ever altered their diet (other than Frogfreak's fly diet) to achieve a smaller than normal or larger than normal adult?

Beautiful!! You're right - if it wasn't for the 'aw shucks' ;), I'd be drooling over the 'beautiful pampas'. My husband sez that they look like they're wearing 'froggles'... ;)

Re: R. benedicta morphs ?

Thankya kindly for the pix, Wes. They explain the difference quite clearly. It appears that the trio I have are all Shucushuyacu and absolutely gorgeous, imo. I'm looking forward to a long-term relationship with them. Speaking of, I'm pretty amazed that I've hung with this hobby for eleven yrs as of...

I checked out their website and they don't differentiate between the two morphs, or did I miss something? Is there a visual difference?

They're from the Understory line. Is it the reticulation that sets them apart?

R. benedicta morphs ?

Howdy, y'all ~
I have recently acquired several benedicta in exchange for equine services rendered. This my dream frog! Now, I'm reading that there is more than one morph. Can you identify which one I have, please?

much thanks,

Howdy!
I'm a long-time hobbyist - most of my frogs and I are coming up on our 11th year. Everyone is stable and happy, and I'm thrilled to see new breeding activity in my Cayo Nancy tank. They're such cool lil frogs ~

Re: MIA Members...

Where are the Texas ladies - GuppyGal and Earth Frog ? Haven't seen either one for a year or two. Not trying to be funny here....seriously wondering. I'm still in the hobby, same frogs +1, same setup. I was advised to get more exercise, so I'm back into horses. I just finished the Salt Grass Trail ...
