Re: Jim from Austin's frog wall

Pretty unique day yesterday. Had both a lamasi/standard sirensis and a Lorenzo morph out in tanks next to each other:

White background - hard to see the coloration

Brown background - better representation of coloration

Beautiful frog, but it looks like you are housing azureus with auratus? If so, I'd caution that mixing species is discouraged; here's a discussion on mixing species and hybridization:

new ant species discovered...in the belly of a sylvatica

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/2016/09/frogs-ants-vomits-new-species/?google_editors_picks=true Finding new species may call to mind images of scientists tracking mysterious footprints in the mud or cutting paths through the dense jungle. But sometimes, a discovery is as easy as getting a frog t...

Re: Jim from Austin's frog wall

The log is actually covered with an epiphytic fern, Davallia parvula , from Zach (goods)! The rhizomes have gone bonkers for some reason, and I get very few fronds. But it has exploded all over the cork round. I will likely harvest some from this round and try in a few other locations with different...

Re: Jim from Austin's frog wall

Good news on the Lorenzo front. The 1.2 I setup over the winter has deposited a clutch. This is an 8 year old male with two 18 month old females from by 2015E cross. The clutch doesn't look good, but this promising! Here's a look at their viv and where their hut and dish are located - they like it p...

Phil - how big of an enclosure would it take to handle a group of pumilio? If anybody can go big on an enclosure it's gonna be Chris :)

Re: Jim from Austin's frog wall

The summersi clutch is coming along. I have not pulled it yet because one of the eggs was deposited right on the lip of the cup so I figured I would wait for the embryo to develop further before moving. Got this phone pic this AM of a holdback Lorenzo female in grow out. She is a 2015E animal- one o...

Re: Paint the tank black ? Hide the false bottom ect?

I painted tanks when I was in the cichlid hobby years back. When I got into frogging I switched over to contact paper. I cannot tell the difference between methods when viewing a tank with properly applied contact paper, and the application process is much faster. I can cut interesting patterns on t...

Re: Hi from a Newbie

Welcome to DartDen! The first viv looks great! Phil gave you some great tips on humidity. I can't tell from the photos if you drilled the tank or not, but keep in mind that as you mist and add water to the FB to keep the humidity up you may need to periodically drain water. You may need FB access (w...

Re: What plant is this?

Looks like the weed prostrate/creeping/spotted spurge - is this the stuff that grows in a radial pattern in the cracks of your driveway?

If so, I would not suggest it - it has a milky sap that is a skin irritant and poisonous if ingested. I'm no plant guy so I may have it wrong.

Re: Jim from Austin's frog wall

These guys just started getting decent at transporting this spring, so I've only pulled a batch as large as 8 in the past few months and they are just starting to come out of water. Three came out last weekend but I'd have to poke around to see what is left in there. I saw a few more swimming around...

Re: Jim from Austin's frog wall

Haha yeah it looks like a lot but the jars are small - about 2oz and I have vivs scattered around the house so I have to distribute them around a bit. We also have dehumidifiers in our HVAC systems that help keep it cool down here - 45% RH or slightly lower during the summer which makes it feel real...

Re: Jim from Austin's frog wall

Time for an update on the highland sirensis / lamasi / tingo maria call 'em what you want project. The group has a few males that call consistently. I have not seen any eggs for the past month or so. The initial clutches from a few months back yielded four tads. I lost one - just found it floating o...

Re: Facebook log-in through Dart Den !

New people will have to register a local DD account and link their FB account to the DD account. There are some intricate phpbb customizations we can make to use your FB user name as your DD user name and auto register the account but this is beyond my phpbb skills :) For now we can just link the ac...

Re: Facebook log-in through Dart Den !

Yeah that's it - you log in with your FB credentials and it's now linked to your old DD account. This feature just associates your DD account to FB, and you can just pop over to FB to log in whenever you need to - for existing members, your profile should look the same. I'm looking at the auto-regis...
