Re: Poll - Plastic Culture Cup use / re-use ?

Phil posted something a few years ago, to the effect of, do they really need to be clean? That made sense to me, of course they don't need to be sparkling, I am going to put bugs in them!! So I get the "hockey puck" out, rinse with super hot water once or twice, and if there's a bit of deb...

Re: Bean Beetles / Weevils - Keeping and Culturing

Jim, If tp rolls aren't working the best for you, I always use a piece of a cardboard egg carton. Are you able to get cardboard egg cartons, not the plastic stuff? The BBs climb in to all the curves of the piece of egg carton, it's easy to just take out the piece and shake it into container for dust...

Your frogs are old enough to be fine with fruit flies, aren't your fruit flies doing OK?

Re: FS: Adult CB proven pair of Pumilio “Bastimentos”

Joe, the frogs got here, and are beautiful! Questions for you (keep in mind these are my first pumilio)--you identified the spotted one as male--he is much larger than the non-spotted one, are pumilio males usually larger than the females? And the non-spotted one has been calling--do female pumilio ...

Re: What to ask for in a custom tank ?

Jim and Phil are giving you great advice on the tank, but I am excited to share my thoughts on the inhabitants!! I have had a proven pair of leucs for over 3 years now, and a trio of cobalts for 2 years now, so I am happy to share my thoughts about these. My leucs, supposedly "proven", hav...

Re: 90 gallon vivarium - too large for 2 frogs?

Crickets grow really fast, and will soon be big enough to gnaw on your frogs. For this reason, among others, you need to feed fruit flies, dusted with calcium and multi-vitamins. Fruit flies don't grow too big. And your frogs will enjoy hunting all over that big viv for their meals! I'd love to see ...

Re: Gope's first vivarium

If you decide on ranitomeya, you should get a couple of larger sized bromeliads--they often deposit in the plants!
Good luck with whatever you choose!

Re: Gope's first vivarium

Tank looks really nice! I'll chime in about the smaller species. I have ranitomeya imitators, and they would do great in this tank. I don't have pumilio (yet), but my understanding is that they do better with a lot more space. Ranitomeya are often recommended for more experienced breeders, I think b...

Re: group / communal tadpole rearing threads

I used this method last year for my cobalts. This was my first year for cobalt reproduction, so it's not a really scientific test, I have nothing to compare it to. I didn't raise any in cups, so I can't compare. It was easier to raise them in groups, instead of cups, for sure. Only about 1/3 made it...

Re: First Viv 20 Gallon High Build

Hi, we've gone to Scott Smiths twice now and they didn't have any darts. Tons of snakes and reptiles. Lots of supplies, some of which are good for darts. An interesting show, but not if you're looking for darts.

You are only about 2 hours from me! That's the closest I've ever had a fellow frogger, very exciting! I've attached (or tried to) a photo of my cobalt froglets, morphed out in January/February. They are one of my favorite frogs, very beautiful and bold--I recommend them if you are interested. 100_21...

Re: Hello Excited and Eager to Learn!

Welcome to the group! You've come to the right place. If you put the area where you live in, you might meet some other froggers near you. Sounds like you are doing things right, learning before you dive in. Also good to get your viv done, and let the plants and the feeders "fill in" before...

Yes, I was in a pinch with my flies and had to buy some of these 2 years ago, and again several months ago. Nowhere near 500, I think they mean the potential for up to 500, over time! ha ha, not quite. But it helped me get through a pinch. The production was really low, terrible, actually! They also...

Re: Diane's frogs and vivs

Last summer my cobalts finally started breeding, and I got eggs in August. I live in northern Illinois, and in winter keep the house at 68 degrees. Cooler temps really do influence morphing time, my tads didn't morph out til January/February! I raised them communally in small 5 gallon tanks, with gr...
