Re: Orange Isopods - Not sure if I saw what I saw......

Personally I think its a calcium obsession in the bugs due to the info I gathered. They are not in a calcium rich media or being fed a calcium rich diet which is needed for isos. The ff are just at the wrong place at the wrong time, Feel free to list your thoughts as well.

Re: Why do people Lurk ?

I agree Glenn to a point being that I lurked the boards from the time they opened till some time early last year and I haven't learned much more than I knew then. That said I did have a connection to the herp hobby and many friends. I relied on phone, emails and shows to meet and trade frogs and lea...

Re: Ethics in the Dart Frog Hobby - start thread

Phil are you talking about Fred? I only ask as he quit messaging me a bit back, I figured he left for good. Its not just the arrest you need to worry about. Take a trip out to even photograph the frogs and you can come up missing out there., Even with the conservation efforts and an export agreement...

Re: Quarantine procedures for the Dart Frog Hobby

Now I guess the new hobbyist would be a bit disadvantaged - not knowing some of the care and husbandry issues and problems that only a more experienced hobbyist would be able to recognize. That's why mentoring and finding a senior hobbyist is HUGELY important. This is why I take issue with new hobb...

Re: Keeping frogs in "glass boxes" - Conservation ?

=I dont think without a valid level of proof on our worth the institutions and zoos will never look at us an a possible help to anything truely considered conservation or expert associated. Online communities don't stand a chance. I have had conversations with institutions and this is a top down in...

Re: Keeping frogs in "glass boxes" - Conservation ?

The problem with reintro is that the frogs are not just endangered due smuggling or collecting they are losing their territories to logging, farming, flooding from a large dam and other issues. How do you reintroduce frogs that have no place to go>?

Re: Keeping frogs in "glass boxes" - Conservation ?

As for reintro its not really a valid theory unless you are farming them on scene feeding them a natural locale food supply as well as keeping it hands off for the most part. They need to be pinned in within their own region and let do their thing whether grouped, paired or you name it but it cant ...

Re: Quarantine and Testing thoughts.................

Its like going to a dermotologist for lung cancer. I think there is an issue of better safe than sorry. Your not risking just the new purchase but your entire collection. I figured some shock factor may get the people thinking.

Quarantine and Testing thoughts...

I think there are enough posts, threads and rants on this subject we need to bring it to life with something you will remember. Quarantining your frogs properly is for both the frogs and the rest of your collections benefit. It gives you the ability to better watch them and make sure all is well on ...

Re: Keeping frogs in "glass boxes" - Conservation ?

Reintro will not happen unless its done at ground zero of the problem and even then Im betting it will need to be protected lands not endangered of habitat loss and free from unregulated collecting. You cant just reintroduce any frog.

Re: Keeping frogs in "glass boxes" - Conservation ?

I say to on the grounds that if you are properly managing and tracking unrelated lines of a certain species or locale and breeding them to ensure they are here long after they go extinct in the wild it is a degree of conservation. Breeders who are just mass producing frogs without a care of whats re...

My bulk supply order finally came in so I have 24 oz cultures ready to go. All are well started cutures available in both pink and white temperate springs and all appear to be 100% mite free. These are all on a nice organic media mix perfect for reculturing or using as seeding cultures. Cultures are...

Re: Tarantula's for Sale

I've heard they get 9''+ The scarlet bird eaters are very nice, Our female is about 8'' but she is surprisingly docile. I have to have a few beers down to get her out with bare hands though. She tagged me once and it wasnt fun.The ones I have were brought in by Ken.

Re: Making money in the Dart Frog Hobby ?

No one is just "going to find you" out of the blue or look you up like the big boys. You have to pound the pavement. But if you put in the work, not only will the hobby reward you with friends and enriching experiences, but you'll be able to afford it with trades and froglets. It is very ...
