Thanks Chuck Powell !

Postby joneill809 » Mon Jan 18, 2016 12:45 pm

Though it's a sad day seeing Chuck offer up his frogs, it should also be a day to celebrate his contributions. I'm still new to this hobby, but there are a few folks that, to me, made the US hobby what is is today. For those of you that don't know, Chuck really held this hobby together before the advent of the forums. His contributions to the American Dendrobatid Group and it's newsletter were truly foundational work that we often overlook.

Reading these old newsletters really makes you appreciate the early husbandry discussions, and how this smaller group of hobbyists established the core hobby that we have today. Look no further than azureus, which were going for $80 to $100 for tadpoles and $100 to $150 for froglets in 1997 dollars:

The hobby has come a long way in those 20 years, and that is due to the efforts of people like Chuck. Thanks for all your contributions Chuck and best wishes!

Yep, right up there with Dr. Dale Bertram. Founding fathers.

Chuck also gave us 'Frog Day', I believe.
