I use only rapashy because I feel I need to have a better understanding before I start mixing stuff. It seems that so much is a matter of opinion and there are so many conflicting opinions it get confusing. I have reptivite and reptical and a couple others but am not using them as of yet. When I got my first frogs a few months ago I ran to the pet store on the way home and they sent me off with rapashy vitamin A. Luckily I did a little research before any problems but I think that vitamin A as a sole supplement everyday wouldn't of ended well.

Disclaimer.....

I know I should of done my research before I was on the was home with my frogs now :D

But I thought, hey come on its just a frog how tough can it be..........

Perhaps the first three questions one should ask themselves when considering keeping dart frogs is, Am I responsible enough, am I mature enough, am I intelligent enough to keep dart frogs correctly.
Oh and add in, am I willing to do enough research so that I can practice exemplary husbandry techniques. If the answer is no....well, perhaps a pet rock would be a better choice for you.

If I had a $3,000.00 frog collection....or even less, I would budget @ $100.00 per year / EVERY year, for multiple fresh vitamins and Calcium supplements. There is no way in hell, I would be only be using only one brand.

Do not understand people being cheap on supplements or only using one supplement. Get different supplements, keep them in the fridge, throw them out after six months, repeat, repeat, repeat, etc.

At this point I am replacing my supplements every 3-4 months, it might be a bit excessive, but considering how relatively cheap the supplements are and how important they are, I think its well worth it. Repashy is my main line of supplements (Calcium+, Vitamin A, and Superpig) but I also use Nekton-Rep in the rotation. I think having multiple quality vitamins only improves your ability to adequately supplement your frogs diet. Replacing them often minimizes your risk of not properly supplementing due to outdated vitamins and feeding a varied diet also helps to ensure your frogs get what you need. Keeping them refrigerated becomes less important if you are replacing every 3-4 months, as stated on most packaging, keeping them sealed in a cooler area of your room will be ok.

I dunno about the fridge - stuff in refrigerators and freezers have a slight amount of 'sweating' don't they ? Isn't that why they say not to store cigars in the fridge ? I would recommend the sealing - vacu or otherwise and just a cool place out of the sunlight and heat, like a basement cabinet in a regular humidity setting, not too damp ect.

Would sealing extend the life past the 6 month life or would u still want to throw it out when you throw out the orig. bottle?

There's no one that's going to be able to give you an absolute answer on this, not even product manufactures or sales reps. Just go by the approx 6 month rule and if you slip into 7-10 months or toss it sooner...no harm no foul. The discussions about shelf life are just guidelines and opinion. Just be aware that superfine powdered vitamins don't last forever, and you'll be fine.

Every person's particular storage area, temperature, humidity conditions ect is different.

So is the calcium plus accepted as a all in one supplement? With maybe the occasional vit A?

Seems lots of experienced froggers use it exclusively.... but it seems to be a terrible sin frowned upon at the same time by others.

I always use a rotation. Of everything. 2-3 kinds of Vits. At least 2 different Calcs. Sometimes even 2 different colour enhancers.

One year a whole pallet of German 'Dendrocare' sat out on the blistering summer airport tarmac. It was widely speculated that the high heat ruined the entire large shipment. Hobbyists reported problems to include frogs that died. This is one distinct possibility and main reason why I will never use just one product or even brand.

Rapashy is very popular and I hear lots of good things about it. I would def include it in my rotation, but would STILL use a rotation in any case.

I see where some people are making statements touting Rapashy as the end-all-be all and that's fine for them. Reptile and Amphibian nutritional supplementation has come a long way and has to be in the top 3 of greatest strides in herpetoculture.

Not saying there is fault or a lacking, but it's hard to say some product or another is THE BEST. Then, like any other consumable, there may be a 'bad batch' mixed up or go bad on the shelf.

My SOP is to always use a rotation of several different products. I will always include a good German superfine vit as well -just because. Because those Germans KNOW their chemical analysis and testing.

some thoughts.

Remember, whatever flavour or new Rapashy fruit fly media product comes out, we still MUST dust all Fruit Flies with additional super fine powdered vitamins and calciums.

A lot of people will be forever squeamish or reluctant to dust flies and this is a set up for a fail.

No dusting = poor health / death

it's just that simple IMO

Don't mix diffident supplements together in the dusting cup. Use one supplement at a time...in rotation.

About the discoverer
In the early 2000s Chris van der Lingen made a study into vitamin use in poison dart frogs. By listening to some of the problems where different frog farmers ran into, such as the emergence of the spindle leg syndrome, sudden death of adult animals etc and after a lengthy comparison study between food animals in nature and food animals we farm ourselves, it turned out as expected that there were some differences in vitamins and minerals.

Vitamins created by the sun, vitamin E and D3, are hardly found in our farmed food animals. Vitamin D3 ensures proper absorption of calcium, needed for proper bone development and vitamin E helps maintaining a health endocrine system and thus good farming results.

Chris has developed a sbalanced combination of vitamin thoroughly testing it on the frogs he farmed himself, noticing farming results significantly improving almost immediately. The frogs behaved much livelier, producing healthier eggs and young frogs proved much healthier, and there were no signs of spindle leg syndromes or other anomalies anymore. Time was ripe to market this vitamin combination, bringing about Dendrocare.

Dendrocare is the missing link between food animals we grow ourselves.
