Termites - All general info

Postby Philsuma » Sat Feb 13, 2016 5:25 pm

Seems like the subterranean termites can live in a vivarium for a long time if not forever. Even though they could not exist in a house in all put the wettest of locations, probably only south florida or perhaps Louisiana, I'd still be a little squeamish about using them, especially 3-4 times a year.

They are an awesome additional or supplemental prey item, and are wonderful for adding weight to breeding animals, especially females, but man, oh man. Existing in the viv -escaped. What are they munching on? Corkbark? Wood features? Ghost wood?

Anyone else have any input, info, thoughts, fears, comments ?

I want to use them for my frogs but I am terrified that I will end up with an infestation. What can go wrong usually goes wrong with me. If I understand the make up of the colony correctly, it needs a queen in order to produce but with my luck a queen will be present.

Propagation wouldn't be an issue, but what if they decided to snack on your house if they escaped? Not worth the risk IMO.
