Are serrated Broms Frog Safe ?

Just received a shipment of grower's choice broms from Florida. Edges all have little prickers on them. Are these going to be safe for the frogs? Ed

Your fine. My frogs crawl all over my broms and never have issues w the edges. Anything is possible, but consider many darts have a "symbiotic" relationship w broms in the wild.

That is a very good point you. Does anybody have info on what darts go with what broms?

No symbiotic relationship for the dead ones; frogs that might get impaled on these prickers!

It's rare but it can happen. I had a red eye tree frog literally disembowel himself on a brom once. Ever since then I won't use them. But as far as I know I am the only person who has actually experienced this in the hobby. So it seems to be pretty rare/ final destination type of improbable.

Most darts do not live around tons of broms.
I have a friend who watched a dart jump and impale itself...

Would it damage the brom to clip off the prickers? If that is even possible, since I haven't seen any of these in person yet...

Wow, mean looking! So does it hurt them to take scissors and trim off at least the points of the spines? Or will they just grow them back?

These are close-ups of the plants in question. I distinctively told the seller (a sponsor on another frog board) that these were for a Blue Jeans tank. Do I ask for refund or what? HELP!!!!!!

I've used some of those same broms before with my pumilio and have not had anything untoward happen.

I would place the occurrence of impaling or frog-laceration right about equal to drowning in a water feature, drowning in a black film can with 2/3 water filled, and getting their leg caught in ecco-web or tree fern, ect.

Anything CAN happen...depends on how worrisome one gets over things like this.

I'll probably get a couple spiky broms for my tanks once I get re-situated....just cause some of those broms have cool colours.

I have some broms coming, and I am quite sure they are similar to those. It seemed that the ones with good axils for tads had those spines...

I mainly use ugly film cans. They don't die or leak.
But, many broms without spikes work, if given good air circulation and higher light (I don't give either) and the spikes can be cut off with no bad effects, if you have the time.
In the wild obligates will use whatever is around, as long as it's small amounts of water. Coconuts, shells, husks which hold water, junk of all variety, dieffenbachia ect. Even black doubled over large drinking straws. Thanks JP.
Here's a plant I have always thought would be great at holding tads in the wild, and in our vivs if it were available. The plant is super dense and large enough to hold them also. It is so heavy it would be about the same weight if it were cast in hard rubber. Medium-low light. No idea what it's called.

Internet Explorer 9 (most current) hates us for some reason. Out of the 8 or so browsers and browser versions, that the only one that has problems here.

Earlier I. E versions and Chrome, Safari, Firefox are all good to go. I use 3 different browsers on different sites. Some browsers suck on certain sites and others are excellent.

Download another browser. Google Chrome is pretty good and everyone I know loves Firefox.
