The new frogs look great Jon! I want dibs on the first offspring they produce. When can I come and check them out?

I just caught one of my male E. anthonyi Santa Isabel transporting a clutch. Always a neat picture.

Wow impressive haul! How long does a transport typically take? A few minutes? Or does the male hunt around for a while to find "the perfect spot"?

Jim, in my experience the male takes awhile to find the perfect spot. I'm still wondering where they laid the eggs. I never saw them.

Haha you guys are funny!!
I happen to catch it all at the right time yesterday. I walked back into the frog room yesterday evening just in time to see the male backing into a pool of water and releasing his tads. I got to share the transport and deposition with my fiance. To see her excitement and wonder was amazing. Talk about a proud frog mom, wow! I don't have a final tad count as I haven't pulled to little pool out yet, but I think we're gonna be close to 15 tads from that clutch.

Well I did my best to count the non stop motion of the anthonyi tads. Looks like around 18-20 of those cute lil suckers. Decent sized clutch.

I've had a great couple of froggin' weeks!!! I received a nice group of juvi A, bassleri chrome. This weekend I was able to tour a couple of friends frog rooms. I helped a buddy sell some froglets and I had a nice young man from Chicago over to tour my frog room and buy some frogs. This weekend I also made another acquisition, these frogs have been on my wish list for quite a long time. Here they are. A nice 2.3 group of P. aurotaenia Green. They are about 18 mos. old and are F1's from the SNDF line. I've heard at least one male calling all morning already.

Nice looking frogs, Jon!

Somewhat rare are they not? I don't see them often.

Glenn, I'm not sure if they're rare or just not popular. I sure don't see them advertised as much as other Phyllobates. In fact I've only seen them posted for sale twice. They really are beautiful, and their call is much like the vittatus but louder.

All the little brown frogs to include the 'rocket' frogs and similar, like these, are always the 'also ran' of the Dart Frog Hobby. So underappreciated IMO.Almost no one works with them and then all of a sudden a few people want them and it creates the illusion of rareness / hard to get. They are all so fecund that offspring should be no problem. Love the neon-lime green.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at Phil. The "under appreciated frog" doesn't get kept or bred, so they becomes rare. I don't know anyone with Vittatus here, except myself other then UE. I don't get it, they're a fantastic frog and do very well in groups. The calls and chatter are unreal.

Great looking frogs Jon. I can't wait to come and check them out. I have only ever seen them one time in person and their colors are really amazing. Your pictures did a pretty good job but I know it still doesn't compare to seeing them in real life. There really is not many people working with them but there are a few around. Like you all said, definitely under appreciated.

I agree they are under rated, but why? They are fantastic little frogs!! Beautiful, great call, can be kept as a group in a relatively small tank. What's not to like? Because they aren't the "it" frog of the moment? It's species like this we can't afford to lose in the hobby.

Jon those last two sentences brings you my admiration, not that you didn't have that anyway, but ya know what I'm trying to say.So congrats on the auretania.I've not seen them here in the flesh. i'm more than a bit smitten by those spotty legs plus bright green go faster stripes,as you say what's not to like

Thanks for the above post

Stu
