Postby Philsuma » Tue Aug 06, 2013 4:03 pm

With 3-D printers becoming more and more available, has anyone seen an application printed for the hobby yet ?

I was actually thinking about this the other day. There is a 3d scanner on indiegogo, maybe kickstarter too. But it looked like you could go up to a rock face or tree stump, scan it and then print out the form, paint it and have a viv background or accent item.

I think you'll start seeing stuff like that in the coming years... and more video/3d elements in vivs too! (If I have anything to say about it ;) )

Ok here it is...
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/456 ... -than-1000

and here is this thing too...

I'm sure there are more things like these in the pipe coming our way... It will only get easier and cheaper, and I suspect soon most people will have at least a 3d scanner if not a 3d printer too.
Everything I've ever wrote is/was just my opinion :P

That wouldn't surprise me. If I wasn't broke you'd be seeing it as soon as they ship out that kickstarter 3d scanner

Oh and P.S. Hydrographics would be an easy way to get life like realism in the things you produced.

In the mean time I've recently discovered taxidermy shops (and also some model railroad shops) have a ton of stuff that is directly applicable to the vivarium hobby, especially when it comes to background/accent items. My god the stuff that is in taxidermy shops is amazing. No doubt I'm going to be able to plull of my dryad concept now with what I've found in those shops. And the prices are comparable if not insanely low compared to what you would see similar stuff going for from vivarium/aquarium sellers.
