Costa Rican Reptile and Amphibian Symposium Sep 22-25 2016

Postby Philsuma » Mon Apr 25, 2016 1:59 pm

Wow!!! Here ya go Byron !!!

I've stayed here and it's a great 'resort' with everything ones wife could want. Spa, pool, restaurant, gift shop, bar, internet, transportation. The resort is a TAD bit north - near Nico but still and all, a wonderful venue for a symposium where herpers could bring their wives and then go off on their own and explore PRIMARY (old) forest.

and the price is great!

4 days for @ $400.00 AND it includes the Symposium.

good stuff folks.

First... I am not going to bring my wife along.
Second... I will be in Belize around that time frame.
Third... I require beach, beer and now 4 Wheelers (Thanks to you).

Soooo

Should we start a discussion about an actual trip? ( I would need to plan this well in advance )

And now everyone should understand why 4 wheelers are a requirement.

That video shows only part of the vast trail system on Northern Colon. Apparently that video was guy and girlfriend taking it 'easy'. If we ever go there Byron, I'll show you the 'top' northern part of that trail system that is the 'Black Diamond' part and not to be undertaken lightly and without another person. The owner of the ATVs - has about 20 of them and a fully staffed repair team, will provide all the free COLD imperial you can drink after returning the ATV.

Cool - at 1:03 into that video is a decent pan to the left that shows Manuel Noriega's military outpost on the coast of northern Colon. I walked around it and wondered if there may have been undiscovered ordinance like a grenade or mortar round laying under the weeds.

Let's go Byron. Break out that passport. The Eastern U.S is too cold already.

I am so on the fence with this.... I couldn't find a place out on Bastimentos that rents ATVs. When is Prime season? anyone else want to go?

There is literally one dive shop on Bastimentos and I am looking forward to trying it out.

Colon is the 'big' / main island. Flying pirate and one competitor will rent us ATV's. Drive them ANYWHERE- even on the hardtop streets with the yellow taxi station wagons/trucks.

Red frog beach / Basti has 3-4 nice spa resorts and would be ideal for the misses and from there it's a 5 dolla' boat ride to colon and the ATVS.
