I saw this shipment, and I wouldn't believe the news. It had permits, but Paraguay questioned the permits when it arrived, likely for political reasons. Also, the value of the shipment is grossly inflated. SR did nothing wrong and if there was illegal dealings going on, I very much doubt that they had any idea. It's not worth the risk and they learned their lesson the hard way in the past.

Justin, can I ask how you "saw this shipment." Do you work for USFW? Also, please help us to understand the political reasons that the Paragauy Gov would target a SR import...

It was at SR, USFWS first cleared it, then held it for a few days before hearing back from Paraguay. I do not work for USFWS.

As for political reasons, not against SR, but against their exporter, SR had NOTHING to do with anything. All questions and problems were in Paraguay. I say political because there are various forces against the wildlife trade there right now and it's folding out to be political. The shipment came out with permits, it just seems like they changed their minds.

Ok, that explains a bit more...thanks for the info. The way the article read, it seemed like they had seized the shipment en route but it was pretty late when I read it...

Nope, it was cleared first, then held at SR as USFWS got a call from Paraguay.

The whole thing clearly showed that it was from infighting in Paraguay, including how the shipment was first going to get distributed to zoos here, but then it was to all be sent back. Similar shipments from the same exporter cleared without problems. I PERSONALLY don't think it had anything to so with illegal paperwork, just an official there getting pissed off after they approved the shipment, likely to teach the exporter a lesson for some reason. That is just a a guess. Either way, I don't think anyone here should put the blame on SR.
