We started converting to Edsel racks last year. You have to be careful when picking out the pieces - they can get bent in shipping and they cost about 2.5x the standard wire bakers racks. But an 8' rack is a full 8' inside the end pieces and is a far more efficient use of space. Overall, I'm very pleased with them and will replace 100% of our wire racks - and that is no small task with rerouting lighting, power, misting systems, and draining....

One of the keys to this hobby, IMO, is using a VENTILATED racking system .Especially with me down here in the hot hot south....gotta have wire shelves.

Indeed...that's what attracted me to that product line in the first place.

I have seen these racks or ones like them in home depot, lowes and menards.
All 3 carry a black package like the one pictured. But menards carries a complete array of the individual parts in a nasty brown color where you can pic whatever size on all 3 dimensions. The thing I would say is that the wire racking is no that impressively strong and I would think about reinforcing it. They do actually sell cross supports too and you could probably grab one for each viv.

I have one of these in the 77"length. (72" inside the beams) It is really a solid unit and I would like to change my other racks over to this brand at some point.

With that being said I would not use the wire supplied for the shelf. Or, at the very least you would definitely need to reinforce it some way as it was very flimsy and it bowed a good amount.

The units come with support beams but they sit a bit lower than the wire does and the wire just bends down to that point, so while providing support, the tanks still do not sit level.

Like you mentioned Phil, I liked the idea of it being vented on the bottom side but I could not think of a way to reinforce it so I removed mine and went with plywood instead.

You would have to have some heavy glass/ wood features and/or water in false bottom to scare me from any given wire rack.

I have the el cheapo Lowes, Target ect and they can take a lot more weight than you think and still be sturdy. I was never scared of even the thin wire racks.

Ohh I hear you Phil. I was not scared of it not holding the weight really, but with it being bowed as much as it was the tanks were not level and I couldn't fit all of the tanks on that I had planned because the tops of them were touching and didn't allow enough room. Now with wood, no bowing that I was getting with the wire.
