I have decided to go a different build route and am selling my 90 gallon tank partially set up. It has cypress driftwood and a partial great stuff background. I am in Charlotte NC and would deliver it within a reasonable distance. 200.00 OBO PM me for more info or pics.

So I ended up getting snails and slugs in a viv a second time, but this time it was in my biggest tank (120 G). I don't like snails and slugs - they ate some of my favorite plants including three orchids...so game on. Getting rid of them required a tear down, so that got me thinking about better plant cleaning strategies. I'm experimenting with a regiment I used in my planted tank days, though I am not sure how well this will work for terrestrial plants. Here's my new plan:
(1) bare root plants, rinse thoroughly
(2) soak plants in tap water for a few hours to hydrate
(3) 15 minute soak in 10% bleach
(4) tap water rinse
(5) 24 to 48 hour bath:
- Alum powder (pickling snails / slugs)
- formalin and malachite green (protozoan / parasite aquatic ick treatment)
(6) tap water rinse
(7) RO rinse
The 24 to 48 hour soak always worked on aquatic snails for me. Alum is a powder you can get in the spice section of the grocery store. It's used for pickling foods, and in this case, snails. I figured this was the nuclear option in my war against snails so we'll see how it works out. I'll post more as I have the opportunity to evaluate the impact of this approach on the test plants. In the meantime, what is everyone else doing to treat their plants beyond the bleach soak?

Hi All,
I live in New York and have been keeping reptiles and amphibians for about 20 years. I just started a new company / website called Bring Back Nature. Our goal is to connect people back with nature by giving great information and products. One of those ways is by offering design vivariums.
If you are interested, take a look at the website and we're doing a Kickstarter right now to get things launched. We'll be adding more unique products soon to expand the website. We're really excited about this and hope to make a difference! My apologies for my shameless self promoting but I thought this would be a great place to let you know about is as co-hobbyists!
If you click the link, you can see pictures of the design vivariums (30 to 90 gallons) - they are finished in wood, waterproofed on the inside and come with tree fern panels. I'm also currently building my own tank (approx 100 gallons) for my house with a custom background - not finished yet but I'll post an update soon!

Hello everybody my name is Gunnar and am new to the den and dart frogs as well, however not a "noob" to animal care in general. I have had an aquarium(s) of some sort almost my entire life as well as several turtles, so I know what it takes to successfully keep pets happy and healthy. I recently discovered a profound interest in dart frogs after a visit to my local pet shop which happens to be Zookeeper Exotic Pets in Austin, Texas. I noticed it on the pet shop shout out thread so I'm guessing there are a few other froggers on here from Austin as well. I have been doing tons of research about the care and habitat needed to keep these amazing creatures happy and healthy and have decided to reach out to you guys for any other questions I may have. Currently I am deciding on what terrarium, plants, and accessories to purchase. I fully intend to have everything set up and monitor the temperature and humidity for at least several weeks before introducing the frogs into it. I look forward to this new venture and interacting with all of you in the near future.

This is the first of my auratus tadpoles I'm raising instead of giving away to good homes. Today was the first day I noticed the coloration, which will be turquoise & dark bronze. It hasn't been eating much, but I understand that's usual if it's absorbing the tail, which it is. That bump definitely looks like the right arm ready to come out, but the left one isn't as pronounced nor does it look symmetrical (hard to see in the photo under the leaf). Does this polliwog look okay to anyone who can tell from this photo?
