  Will these lights work?
Posted by: Hydromaestro - 01-24-2015, 08:39 PM - Forum: Lighting, Misting Systems, Tweaks, Modifications - Replies (4)

Hey guys was wondering if anyone had any first hand experience with these lights or knows about them at all.

http://www.mistking.com/Jungle-Hobbies- ... ystem.html

Ive seen the YouTube videos and they look amazing. Im just not sure if it would be enough or if it would be overkill. The tank is 20 gallong long I believe. Im willing to drop the cash on a nice lighting system just want to make sure I invest in the right one. The tank is going to be for dart frogs im just not sure yet as to which ones not sure if that matters

  Frogs for trade/sale
Posted by: goods - 01-22-2015, 11:07 AM - Forum: Dart Frog Classifieds - Replies (5)

Hi,

In an effort to slim down on some excess, I'd like to offer up a few frogs/groups for a nice group of fantastica/summersi. Here's what I can offer on my end:

Very probably male standard sirensis
Sexed pair of San Juan blue jeans
3 Young adult F1 Uyama

PM me if you have something I may be interested in. Frogs don't have to be adult. Mostly grown froglets are fine with me.

I'd also consider selling this group for $700. I'm possibly open to offers on individual groups.

Thanks!

  Legacy Frog.
Posted by: Sherman - 01-20-2015, 11:59 AM - Forum: General Questions and Comments - Replies (10)

A friend of mine put two words together the other day that blew my mind.
Legacy Frog.
It is basically the last frog that you will have until the day you can no longer keep any frogs. A particular type of frog that you put extra attention into to produce the best offspring possible and keep the line going as strong as possible for the benefit of future generations.
It dawned on my that my personal legacy frog is the lowly French Guiana (dwarf) Cobalt D. tinctorius. This was once one of the only frogs available to hobbyists and one of the first poison frogs I have ever seen in living color. Sadly this frog has fallen out of vogue and has become much harder to find. This is one frog has been around long enough to start showing signs of mismanagement from careless breeding and lack of record keeping. I have had very little success with this frog. I fear that my current stock is either too inbred or has been out crossed in the past. (Without records, unfortunately I do not know which has happened.) What has been described to me as a highly fecund frog produces infrequent eggs that fail to thrive in all stages of life (eggs, tads, froglets).
I will continue to work with these animals and attempt to someday offer unrelated pairs with as much information as I can gather so others looking to keep these little beauties in the future can.

What is your legacy frog?

  Shipping in cold temperatures
Posted by: Frogopolis - 01-20-2015, 05:09 AM - Forum: Shipping Issues. Importing.Traveling with Frogs. - Replies (9)

I've only shipped in the springtime and early fall when temperatures were at the lowest in the sixties. I live in CA but other parts of the country are still experiencing some pretty cold temperatures, and although I only use FedEx Overnight Priority by 10:30, I'm still not sure of it. I've always used insulated boxes with 3/4" styrofoam and either Cryopaks or Phase22 panels.

How safe are 40 hour heat packs with dart frogs? I've always worried about the amount of heat they would produce inside of a sealed styrofoam insulated box.

veradero tadpoles in broms with worms?
Posted by: Evaradero - 01-17-2015, 11:56 PM - Forum: Breeding - Eggs, Tadpoles, Froglets - Replies (3)

After several months of courting and calling, my veraderos finally layed eggs and have tadpoles in the broms. although there are some larvae of some sort in the bromeliads with the tadpoles. not sure whether they could be harmful to the tadpoles and if I should pull them. has anyone encountered something like this?
